St Peter’s church is 900 years old. The building has elements of its Norman beginnings, traces of Elizabethan features, and many Victorian characteristics.
Thirty years ago, a group was formed whose purpose was to raise funds in order to preserve the fabric of this beautiful historic building. They are the “Friends of St Peter’s”.
Since its inception in 1995, Friends of St Peter’s has contributed almost £50,000 towards repairs and maintenance to the church building, lychgate and surrounding churchyard. Most recently, donations of approximately £12,000 have been made to help with repairs to church windows, exterior stonework and gutters.
Funds are raised in two ways – through Membership and through Events.
Membership is £20 a year per family, or £200 for life membership.
Fund-raising events in the past have included a well-established and well-supported Annual Quizzz, Concerts, a Quilting & Embroidery Exhibition, and Harvest Celebration of Music and Flowers.
Our Calendar of Events for this year, 2025, has something for everyone.
In March there was the Annual Quizzz Evening, in April there was a Needlecraft Exhibition, and in May there was a Music Afternoon with Cream Teas.
