What is a Posada?

Posada is a South American tradition of reenactng the journey of Mary and Joseph
to Bethlehem in search of a place to stay. In Mexican the word Posada means an Inn
and families traditionally move from home to home or inn to inn between December
16th – 24th.
In the UK, we celebrate it by inviting local families to host Mary and Joseph (from the
knitted church crib figures) for one or more days before taking them on to another
house. Finally on December 24th (Christmas Eve) they are brought together with the
rest of the figures to form the centre piece of the Nativity service at 4pm
